Attapady – A overview of a Hill Village to have travel experience at Tamilnadu Kerala border


Coimbatore is a Manchester of South India and it is located at the foothills of the Queen of Mountains (Nilgiri). It is surrounded by Rivers, Ponds and Agro Fields and it one of the few cities across globe which has a pleasant atmosphere to live in. Further the outskirts of Coimbatore is surrounded by Valparai Hills and Coconut farms at the one side and Kerala – the god’s own country at the other side. There are multiple places to visit around Coimbatore and this blog is about an adventure trip around Coimbatore. 

I just wanted to experience some adventure so without clue I started travelling to Karamadai, a place close to the Niligiri foothills, to visit the village called Baralikadu to experience river boating and village fooding. As the day I travelled is in between the week and I was informed by the forest department that the program is only planned on weekends. So without frustration I have started to travel further and reached a placed called Tholampalayam, where I have a seen a sign board of Anaikatty 17 kms. Immediately I got eager to travel further as I was wondering avbout the place for a long time. After travelling 17 kms on a small hill road, I have reached Anaikatty, hwere I came to know about the Tamilnadu Kerala border, a place called Kottathara at Kerala. The oplace is surrounded by many small hills and a wonderful sight seeing experience. Further to have a adventurous experience I have travelled further and reached a place called Attapady, which is a hill village, surrounded by water falls, grains cultivation and restruants etc.., In this blog we travel actross this tourist spot. 

Attapady is a village located at the western ghats of the Kerala state. It is oine of the unknown hill station where lots of adventures exists. Attapady is popular for Species and Grains cultivation. Some of the spices included Elachi and rare ayurvedic roots which possess a natural curing and preventing tendency for most of the diseases. Further the village is good in grains cultivation, where few of the grains includes kambu, Ragi, Cholam, Thinai and rare breed of Rice. This village is also has restuarants to attract tourist peoples offering traditional village made foods. 

At around 15 kms from this place Silent Valley is located, which is one a balanced biosphere to experience the wild life. The Silent Valley park is located near to the Siruvani dam and it is one of Ecosphere to experience the wild animals life style. The most commonly seen wild animals are Elephants, Deer, Rhinosours, and Fox. One the way you could experiences variety of flora and fauna. The hill is one of least travelled path and has a pleasant silent atmosphere with almost zero sunlight. The place is one of the few areas where you could experience natural resources amidst of the mechanist city life style and polluted environment. It has resorts and mansions for a short stay as well. 

The down hill of the Attapady is the Manarkkad of Kerala state, which is a Tier II city and could have a nice shoppinjg experience. It is mid place between Kozhikode and Palakkad of Kerela state. On travelling North west from Manarkad for about 50 kms we could reach the Palakkad, a Ghat famous for business between Tamilnadu and Kerala. Again travelling 70 kms further from Kerala we could reach the Coimbatore. It is a one day round trip experience for adventure seekers.
